Hello everyone and welcome back to our video series where we’ll be showing side-by-side comparisons between Vlingo and Siri.  In this video we take a closer look at how helpful your  Assistant is when you can’t touch or look at your phone.  What we found may surprise some folks – Vlingo’s Virtual Assistant for Android phones actually offers superior handsfree controls.  While Siri and your iPhone 4S need regular management, when Vlingo is in InCar mode your Assistant springs to life with a simple wake up word and you never need to touch your phone to send texts, get directions or make a call.

Don’t take our word for it, though.  Check out the video and let us know what you think.

Be sure to check back again next week for another video where we compare how Vlingo and Siri work with 3rd party apps and social networks.  In the meantime please let us know in the comments if there are any other comparisons you like to see.

Thanks,

TJ

it’s good but struggles with my northern ( UK) accent… needs a bit of work, but I am impressed, really good while your driving to hear your incoming text message read out.

    nice

Well, I guess he didn’t do his research because Siri does read your text message to you of you ask it to and your can edit you text as well. Plus with the Apple earphones you can push and hold it and not have to touch your phone at all. Siri>

Guess I can’t really blame this guy for leaving the “read everything back” toggle off. He is tryIng to make this as one sided as possible. Still nice work with vlingo. To bad the full fuctionlity isn’t offered on all platforms.

How did you get Vlingo to know your name?  I sometimes have trouble sending texts.  Vlingo doesn’t always get the words correct.  I use it with my Jawbone Icon bluetooth headset.

PLEASE can you add mic sensitivity option – I found the latest version practically unusable whilst driving 🙁

This isn’t really a fair comparison.  This is more of a iOS vs. Android comparison.  Do a side-by-side of Vlingo on an Android phone and on an iPhone.  I run Vlingo on my iPhone 4 and it works pretty well.  My daughter has a 4S and Siri seems to work much better on her phone than Vlingo does on mine.

Vlingo on the android is pretty good. I find that at certain tomes of day it has a harder time understanding than others. Also, I wish they would add features like adding appointments, and make the email feature work by hands free. I don’t pay for much, but this app is one that I would pay for if they add features and make it work flawlessly.

Yo TJ I prefer not to have Vlingo listening in the backround waiting for the wake up phrase so on my motorola s-10 wireless bluetooth headset I just press the call button once which activates incar mode and a second time for it to awaite command. This is all done without taking my phone out of my pocket. Oh yea and if it is reading a private message to me in the head set and I don’t want to hear the rest of it read aloud because I am prefer the sound of pandora radio without having something read aloud over at the same time I just shake the phone cause that is my setting.

So what ever happened to in-car for iOS that you guys kept promising was coming soon all of 2011?  Now Siri has come out for iPhone 4s and everyone with anything but an iPhone 4s is just left hanging.  Seems like Vlingo has abandoned their iOS customers and are focusing on nothing but Android.  Nice job on the app none the less.

How can I get Vlingo to recognise “Cathy” as “Cathy”, not “Kathy” so I can call my wife, and still keep the spelling in her contact correct?

I have been a Vlingo user for some time. I have always seemed to have problems with Bluetooth. I just bought a new car and discovered the voice connection between the car Bluetooth and Vlingo was non-existent. I uninstalled Vlingo against my better judgement, and I was surprised. I now have great cooperation between the phone and the Bluetooth in the car. I would love to be able to get my Vlingo back but if I can’t make it work with my car which is the main reason for using the in-car mode, I can;t see re-installing. I hope someone can come up with a solution.

vlingo shuts down on Samsung Galaxy III when incar mode is engaged. We have 2 Galaxys and this is the case with both. Worked fine on our EVOs but not with Galaxy. Whats up Vlingo/Nuance???
