Vlingo for iPhone 2.0 adds Email and SMS! Download today!

Since day 1 of launching the 1st Vlingo for iPhone application, our users have pleaded with us to add the ability to send an email and text message by just speaking! Well we are pleased to announce that Vlingo for iPhone 2.0 gives users the ability to send an email or SMS by just speaking into your voice. Don’t believe us? Check out the video below!

To get this functionality, download the free version of Vlingo on the App store . You can then purchase the messaging functionality. Each function is $6.99 or you can buy both for $9.99

Don’t know about Vlingo? Well with Vlingo for iPhone you can use your voice to:

  • Send an email: send an email by speaking a contact, subject and message body. For example, “Email Chris, Subject Tonight, Message Running a bit late!”
  • Send an SMS Paste: send a text message by speaking a contact and message. Simply say, “Text Mike, Message How are you?
  • Do a web search: Search the web using Google, Yahoo! Or Bing. Just say, “Bing sushi restaurants in San Francisco,” and view results.
  • Update Facebook and Twitter status updates without typing.
  • Use Google Maps. Look up and map local listings. For example, by saying, “Find Italian restaurants in San Francisco,” Vlingo will show choices and can populate Google Maps with the touch of a button.
  • Call to anyone in your address book

We’ve also made several enhancements to the original application. In addition to a complete redesign of the application we have added 2 items that should make the Vlingo even easier to use!

  • Auto-Listen: voice recognition can be set to start automatically when the iPhone is turned on. Simply open Vlingo and speak in one easy step.
  • Contact Selection: when composing a text message, say your contact and the message in one fell swoop, “Text Erin How are you?”

        No, unfortunately that’s a limitation of iOS versus Android. Best way to reply is to compose a new message from the Vlingo home screen. Not ideal, we know. As soon as Apple opens up the opportunity, we’ll be developing a reply feature like we have on Android.

    I love the app, but I’m frustrated because I was hoping that I could also hear incoming texts. Is there a way to receive texts with the audio? Can I hear incoming texts?

      Yes unless you are having trouble with the app, all you need to know is in the app’s help or how do i use Vlingo menu.  if you cant get it to work delete it and download it again preferably the latest version…

    I have used Vingo since it came out but only on my Blackberry. Now I have a IPhone4 and loaded it.Its Good but not great like it was. The two best features that I liked were Note to Self on the exchange server and reply to mail With Vingo.
    I don’t like it when I have to take a step back. Hopfully this can be rectified!!

    Reading emails and texts out loud may be easy if Vlingo teams up with an already existing app like ‘speak it’.

    Also, if Vlingo allowed the little microphone button to appear upon every interaction with SMS or email, responding would be a snap. The microphone icon should be a permanent fixture when the app is on you iPhone. Are there any plans to do that?

    i have used vlingo from day 1, it read my E-MAILS & sms out load… BUT NOW IT HAS JUST STOPPED READING E-MAIL!!!  this was working fine for over 11 months, i am pretty disappointed with this i have tried everything to get it to read E-MAILS like it used to, i’ve updated the app i went back to the earlier version everything i’ve tried has been unsuccessful. WHY DID IT READ EMAIL TO START WITH AND THEN JUST STOP..??? Vlingo should also have the ability to re-read a message on command if they at least figured out how to get it to do that it would make the app much more convenient and i would deffinately use it 10 times as much as i do now! Would it be so hard to have e-mail read out loud like sms, you would think that this would be a most important part of designing this app! Any way i am annoyed about the fact that THIS APP WAS READING MY E-MAIL FOR A LONG TIME BEFORE IT DECIDES TO JUST STOP READING E-MAIL, AHH !!!

    Creating a new email or SMS is expected basic functionality.  What this user is “begging for” is to carry on my SMS conversations with Vlingo (on iPhone) and Reply to Email directly with Vlingo.  Without these things, Vlingo is useful only about 10% of the time and therefore NOT worth the money.
