You spoke and we listened!

We just dropped an update on Android Market that restores the 1×1 microphone widget.  Thanks for letting us know how important it is to you.   We try to balance a lot of considerations whenever we make a change, but we don’t always get it right.   So our apologies for any inconvenience we caused the last couple weeks.  You are now free to enjoy your widget again!

In addition to restoring the 1×1 widget, we also fixed a number of issues, including:

  • Added the SafeReader icon to the home screen (top left)
  • Improvements to auto-listen (app exits upon completion of your action)
  • Improvements to direct dial-by-number (reduced delay)
  • Fixed microphone compatibility issues with Swype, Moto Atrix, and others
  • Faster, more responsive contact searches
  • Greatly reduced initial start time, no more time outs on older devices
  • Recognition tones can now be turned off in settings
  • Restored “Shake to skip” functionality on SafeReader
  • Various crashes fixed. Thanks for reporting error logs!

As many of you have also noticed, the Vlingo Keyboard was taken out of a recent version.  We hate to say it, but we will not be bringing it back.  To be totally honest, it was just an old version of the stock Android keyboard (from December 2009) with a Vlingo mic on it.  And it was taking up valuable memory and resources to keep it updated.

Good news is that you can easily replicate the functionality if you have Android 2.2 or higher:

1. Go to Settings
2. Select Voice input & output
3. Select Vlingo under the Voice Recognizer drop down

Then you can access Vlingo via the microphone button on whatever keyboard you use.  Hope that helps you out.

Thanks to all for your continued support and loyalty.

Thank you for taking our wishes into consideration! I haven’t even been using Vlingo because it had become a drag. I look forward to using it again & having the great app it used to be back in service!

Thanks for the update! Nice to see you making changes, and constantly improving. And, unlike some other developers, listen to your fan base. Hopefully this somehow fixed the In-Car compatibility with the release of Gingerbread on the Atrix. It just didn’t want to play nice with my car dock app at all after the update.

Did you ever put an exit button in the app that actually closes out all processes?  I haven’t downloaded in a long time because I was waiting for this improvement.

Nope, you didn’t. Still consuming 19mb of RAM when idle and most all things turned off.  Too bad.

    Still waiting for bluetooth…

Each time I try to use the app it states that there is a problem with the network.

I have a Htc Wildfire and I don’t use mobile access to the Internet due to high costs. I only use WiFi when at home for Internet access with my phone.

I can’t underestand why the app should need mobile data access for calls, sms, and other non-internet related functions?
I would like to be able to use the app in the car with a BlueAnt unit but every time I get a call in the car, VLingo gives the network error message and ignores the call?

Great app if I can every get it to work outside the home.

I see the microphone widget.  Issue is its not wanting to drop down in my app bar at the bottom.  This is on GNex ICS with the CM9 trebuchet launcher.  Any ideas?  Seems to be the right size just doesn’t want to drop down there.

I’m not able to open the downloaded app on my HTC Incredible 2  any tips?
